🎯 The Role

As a Principal Frontend Engineer on the Marketplace Item Setup team, you will be central to building and evolving user-facing systems that empower sellers and internal teams to manage millions of items across Walmart's global e-commerce platforms. This high-impact role involves architecting micro-frontend systems, design system components, and Backend for Frontend (BFF) layers for global markets at scale. You will set technical direction, mentor engineers, and influence frontend engineering standards across Walmart's Global Tech organization.

🛠️ Tech Stack

Core technologies include React, TypeScript, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3. State management solutions like Redux or Zustand are utilized. Build tooling involves Webpack and Vite. The team works with Node.js for BFF layers, GraphQL, REST APIs, Kubernetes-based platforms, Azure CDN, Akamai, and CI/CD pipelines (Looper/Concord). Testing frameworks include Jest, React Testing Library, and Cypress.

💼 What You'll Do

• Architect and deliver scalable, high-performance, and accessible React/TypeScript applications and micro-frontend systems for item setup and listing management.
• Drive frontend technical strategy, define architectural patterns, coding standards, and best practices, and conduct design/code reviews.
• Ensure web performance (Core Web Vitals, Lighthouse scores) and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility compliance, fostering a culture of quality through automated testing.
• Mentor senior and staff frontend engineers, promoting technical rigor, ownership, and continuous learning.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, and Backend teams to translate business requirements into robust and delightful frontend experiences.

✅ What You'll Need

• 12+ years of software engineering experience with deep expertise in React, TypeScript, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3, alongside strong understanding of component-based architecture and state management.
• Hands-on experience designing and operating micro-frontend architectures at scale, with proficiency in Node.js-based BFF layers and consuming GraphQL/REST APIs.
• Proven track record in web performance optimization (Core Web Vitals, bundle sizes, lazy loading) and achieving WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards.
• Experience with cloud-native delivery on Kubernetes, Azure CDN, Akamai, CI/CD pipelines, feature flagging, and A/B testing.
• Principal-level leadership, communication skills, and a track record of leading technical roadmaps, building design systems, and mentoring engineers.
• Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field with 5 years of experience, or 7 years of relevant software engineering experience.
