🎯 The Role

As a Frontend Software Engineer at Plane, you will be responsible for creating intuitive, responsive user surfaces across the client. Plane's architecture relies on local-first data principles where application state lives directly in the browser and synchronizes whenever network connectivity is available. You will work on rich workspace views, collaborative editors, offline caching systems, and reusable design components alongside teammates in San Francisco and Hyderabad.

💼 What You'll Do

• Take ownership of user-facing UI surfaces from design reviews through implementation and production rollout.
• Work alongside senior engineers to expand the local-first synchronization engine, conflict resolution logic, and collaborative editing capabilities.
• Optimize rendering paths, virtualization, and client-side memory to keep large views holding tens of thousands of issues lightning-fast.
• Build and harden offline features using IndexedDB and Service Workers so Plane remains dependable even without an active internet connection.
• Partner daily with product designers and backend developers while reviewing community-submitted pull requests on GitHub.
• Diagnose subtle visual and behavioral bugs across multiple browser engines, screen dimensions, and self-hosted editions.

✅ What You'll Need

• Demonstrated track record of shipping production-quality React and TypeScript web applications.
• Solid understanding of client state models, reactivity concepts, and architectural trade-offs between local and global state (e.g., MobX, Redux, or Zustand).
• Strong eye for visual detail and craftsmanship when crafting accessible, responsive styles with Tailwind CSS.
• Hands-on experience developing or maintaining shared design systems or UI component libraries.

🌟 Nice to Have

• Concrete experience profiling and accelerating frontend load and interaction performance.
• Experience contributing to Plane or maintaining popular open-source software.
• Background building rich-text editors using frameworks such as ProseMirror, Lexical, Tiptap, or CodeMirror.
• Prior experience building offline-first systems or working with CRDTs.
• Familiarity with designing interfaces that accommodate actions and attribution for AI agents.
