🎯 The Role

As a Senior Staff Frontend Engineer, you will own the client-side architecture of Plane. The platform operates on a local-first, highly collaborative foundation where state is managed in the browser and synchronized via WebSockets with an Elixir backend. You will lead the technical strategy for real-time collaboration, ensure rock-solid performance across dense data views, and establish interfaces that render human and AI agent actions with complete accountability.

💼 What You'll Do

• Architect the client-side system, defining clear sync boundaries with backend Elixir services and guiding state lifecycle management.
• Drive end-to-end real-time collaborative editing, encompassing conflict resolution, serialization, and offline durability.
• Establish performance and accessibility standards for heavy interfaces handling tens of thousands of issues and state updates.
• Design interface patterns that clearly attribute AI agent activities and changes alongside human actions.
• Mentor engineers across distributed teams in San Francisco and Hyderabad through rigorous code reviews and durable architectural guidelines.
• Lead versioning and migration strategies across public repositories, self-hosted deployments, and desktop Electron clients.

✅ What You'll Need

• 8+ years of experience building scalable web applications with demonstrated ownership of large-scale frontend architectures.
• Expert-level mastery of TypeScript, React, memory profiling, and browser rendering lifecycles.
• Proven history designing, distributing, and evolving shared UI component libraries and design systems.
• Production experience building and maintaining real-time collaborative editing features (CRDTs or Operational Transformation).
• Track record of mentoring other engineers and establishing enduring frontend engineering standards.

🌟 Nice to Have

• Deep familiarity with rich-text editor architectures such as ProseMirror, Tiptap, or Lexical.
• Ability to read Elixir, Go, or Python to trace bugs across client-server boundaries.
• Experience building, bundling, and releasing desktop applications using Electron.
• History of active maintenance or contributions to high-visibility open-source projects.
