🎯 The Role

The Access Essentials organization at Okta develops the critical platform services and client interfaces for identity authentication and authorization across protected enterprise resources. Within this organization, the First Party Apps Platform team builds customer-facing web surfaces, including the Okta Sign-in Widget, the End User SSO Dashboard, and the Okta Browser Plugin.

As a Principal UI Software Engineer, you will serve as a premier frontend architect and technical leader, guiding the evolution of high-traffic web experiences relied upon by millions of daily active users.

💼 What You'll Do

• Lead the end-to-end frontend technical architecture and development of complex, high-throughput features using React and TypeScript.
• Work alongside product managers, UX designers, and backend engineering teams to transform system requirements into scalable web interfaces.
• Author clean, modular, and maintainable software with rigorous test coverage across unit, integration, and end-to-end test suites.
• Maximize application speed, client-side rendering efficiency, and cross-browser reliability across global desktop and mobile environments.
• Proactively remediate technical debt, evaluate modern tooling, and elevate engineering standards across the wider frontend discipline.

✅ What You'll Need

• 13+ years of professional software engineering experience with substantial focus on building large-scale frontend web systems.
• Deep technical mastery of React, its internal rendering lifecycle, hooks, and scalable state patterns.
• Advanced command of TypeScript for crafting type-safe, maintainable enterprise codebases.
• Thorough understanding of modern web standards (ES6+, DOM, HTML5, CSS3) and front-end build pipelines (Vite, Webpack).
• Hands-on discipline with testing frameworks like Jest, React Testing Library, and Playwright.
• Proven experience designing responsive and accessible (a11y) web applications.
• Excellent debugging abilities and clear communication when collaborating across distributed cross-functional teams.

• Experience architecting and maintaining shared design systems and enterprise component libraries.
• Understanding of Identity and Access Management (IAM) standards and security protocols such as OAuth, SAML, WebAuthn, FIDO, or SSO.
