🎯 The Role

As a Senior / Staff Applied Research Software Engineer in Twilio's Emerging Technologies incubation group, you will explore new frontiers in software development. You will build rapid prototypes, evaluate cutting-edge AI capabilities, and leverage agentic coding architectures (including Model Context Protocol and LLMs) to bring next-generation ideas to life.

💼 What You'll Do

• Prototype, develop, test, and iterate on emerging product features and new technology concepts.
• Harness agentic AI workflows and modern AI development tools to accelerate prototyping cycles.
• Build responsive frontend interfaces and integrate robust backend services.
• Collaborate across technical and product teams to evaluate feasibility and architecture of exploratory projects.
• Champion engineering best practices, code quality, and structured knowledge sharing.

✅ What You'll Need

• 3+ years (Senior) or 5+ years (Staff) of professional full-stack or frontend software engineering experience.
• Solid command of modern JavaScript, TypeScript, or Python, alongside frontend frameworks like React or Angular.
• Experience with backend runtimes such as Node.js and basic database design principles (SQL/NoSQL).
• Hands-on experience incorporating AI coding assistants and agentic workflows (e.g. MCP, LLM tooling) into development.
• High comfort level working with ambiguity, fast iteration cycles, and self-directed problem-solving.
