🎯 The Role

As the Senior Frontend Engineer at Umbrel, you will lead frontend engineering across all company surfaces, including the umbrelOS browser desktop, first-party applications, and marketing website. Working in an async-first culture, you will partner directly with design to craft responsive, accessible, and delightful interfaces.

💼 What You'll Do

• Lead the architecture and implementation of user interfaces across umbrelOS and related web properties.
• Translate complex distributed system states into intuitive, calm visual interfaces.
• Craft accessible, reusable UI components using React, TypeScript, and Radix UI primitives.
• Implement purposeful animations and subtle micro-interactions that communicate state transitions cleanly.
• Author clear technical specifications and prototypes to solve open-ended product challenges.

✅ What You'll Need

• 5+ years of software development experience specializing in frontend web engineering.
• Deep expertise in React, TypeScript, and modern component libraries like Radix and Tailwind CSS.
• An exceptional eye for interaction design, spacing, typography, and motion polish.
• Experience delivering accessible, keyboard-navigable web applications.
• Strong written communication skills suited to an asynchronous, remote-first team.

• Experience building desktop-style web applications or complex dashboard layouts.
• Background in self-hosting, local-first computing, or open-source software.
• Familiarity with WebSockets and real-time event streaming interfaces.
