🎯 The Role

This role sits at the intersection of product engineering and platform design. You will own the technical direction and architecture of Tailscale's next-generation web console, building the infrastructure that allows multiple product teams to ship seamlessly within a unified surface. You will have a dedicated focus on browser security, authentication flows, cross-origin session management, and developer ergonomics.

💼 What You'll Do

• Define and execute the frontend architecture for the next-generation console
• Architect robust cross-origin authentication, session handling, and CORS policies across services
• Build an internal frontend serving platform that standardizes deployment workflows
• Build shared abstractions and design patterns that allow non-frontend engineers to ship accessible UI safely
• Collaborate closely with Product Design, Infrastructure, and Growth teams on experimentation and ergonomics
• Upgrade testing frameworks and preview deployment tooling to speed up developer feedback cycles
• Mentor teammates and participate in regular on-call incident triage

✅ What You'll Need

• Extensive background developing and scaling production React applications
• Deep mastery of web platform fundamentals including HTTP, browser security primitives, and authentication flows
• Experience building internal platforms, frameworks, or shared UI libraries
• Sound judgment around when to standardize abstractions versus keeping systems simple
• Proven ability to design comprehensive, developer-friendly frontend testing strategies
• Strong written and verbal communication skills across distributed remote teams

• Experience designing frontend tooling and conventions optimized for AI-assisted coding
• Experience with design systems, component libraries, and design token pipelines
• Background working with B2B SaaS, admin consoles, or identity-sensitive systems
