We are seeking a Software Engineer to help us build the next version of the media web experience. In this role, you will define the work on the technical components of how we deliver video and audio content at Reddit. Specifically, you will focus on our web media player and the APIs that power it, drawing on industry patterns from top streaming platforms to build seamless, low-latency playback experiences and interactive tools for creators and users alike.

๐Ÿ’ผ What You'll Do

  • Work cross-functionally with product, design, and engineering to execute product and business strategy and build novel products and features.
  • Contribute to the full development cycle: technical design, development, test, experimentation, analysis, and launch.
  • Design and implement end-to-end fullstack solutions, optimizing web UI components for the media player (React, TypeScript) and backend APIs (Go, Python).
  • Move fast while balancing quality; avoid extensive processes and show-stopping bugs.
  • Review code and design docs, give feedback on product specs and mocks.
  • Collaborate with client and platform engineers to improve media performance across Reddit globally.
  • Contribute to standards that improve developer workflows, recommend best practices, and mentor junior engineers.

โœ… What You'll Need

  • BS degree in Computer Science, similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3+ years of software development experience in one or more general-purpose programming languages (Go, Python, Rust, Ruby).
  • Proficiency in modern web development technologies (JavaScript, React, Next.js, TypeScript) and experience translating complex UI/UX designs into scalable web applications.
  • Experience with GraphQL, REST, HTTP, gRPC, Thrift basics and ability to design and implement maintainable APIs.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize tasks and deliver projects on schedule.
  • Excellent communication skills; collaborate effectively in a fully remote environment and discuss complex topics with technical and non-technical audiences.
