🎯 The Role
As a Design Engineer, you will bridge the divide between product design and engineering at Replit. You will take ownership of the technical implementation and evolution of the Replit UI design system, build prototypes for new interaction paradigms, and ensure every interface across the product meets the highest bar of aesthetic polish and performance.

💼 What You'll Do
- Architect and implement UI components balancing visual delight with high runtime performance
- Lead the technical roadmap, component library, and design tokens for Replit UI
- Rapidly build interactive prototypes to test and validate novel AI agent interaction models
- Collaborate directly with product designers to translate Figma concepts into pixel-perfect code
- Establish frontend conventions, animation standards, and component architectures for the team
- Build developer tools and workflows that streamline the handoff from design to production
- Advocate for web accessibility, responsive layouts, and client-side performance
✅ What You'll Need
- 8+ years of frontend engineering experience with a strong design sensibility
- Expert knowledge of HTML, CSS, and modern JavaScript / TypeScript
- Extensive hands-on experience with modern component frameworks (React preferred)
- Deep understanding of design systems, reusable UI architecture, and design token pipelines
- Proven skill in implementing complex UI animations and fluid interactive states
- Strong communication skills to bridge technical feasibility with visual design intent
- Solid foundation in web accessibility (a11y) standards and responsive UI patterns

- Experience building developer tools, design software, or cloud IDE interfaces
- Prior experience integrating AI agent workflows into consumer or developer products
- Contributions to open-source UI libraries, component packages, or design systems
